I recently embarked on a 9-hour journey with KLM Airways on December 11, 2023, flying from Amsterdam to Atlanta aboard a KLM Boeing 787-10 aircraft. The KLM Boeing 787-10 seats 344 max passengers, with Economy Class seats arranged in a 3x3x3 configuration, Premium Comfort seats were arranged in a 2x3x2 configuration, and Business Class seats arranged on a 1x2x1 configuration, while KLM’s World Class Seats feature full layout seats. Here is my KLM Flight Review – Amsterdam to Atlanta.
Opting for an Economy Comfort seat in 18J, I was promised an extra 10 cm/4 inches of legroom, and KLM certainly delivered on this front—the legroom was notably spacious. However, the practicality of the seat left something to be desired. The tray tables were positioned remarkably low, almost uncomfortably close to my lap. If the passenger in front decided to recline, it posed a challenge—my drink or water bottle risked a precarious spill, and accessing the seatback pocket became a cumbersome task.
Thankfully, each seat boasted an in-flight entertainment screen, offering a plethora of movies, games, and music, providing a welcomed distraction during the lengthy flight.
Approximately 1.5 hours into the journey, dinner service commenced. Passengers were presented with a choice between chicken and pasta for their entrees. Opting for the chicken, I soon found myself regretting my decision. The chicken entrée was an unconventional sausage with a peculiar texture inside the casing. This unexpected twist left me longing for a more traditional inflight dining experience. As soon as the dinner entrees arrived at our tables, a wave of shared dissatisfaction swept through the passengers around me. Without exchanging words, we all instinctively locked eyes, silently confirming that the chicken entrée had elicited a unanimous grimace. Surprisingly, the subpar meal became the catalyst for lively conversation among us.
After watching a movie, playing a couple of games on the in-flight entertainment system, I took advantage of the long flight time and closed my eyes for some much needed sleep. Approximately 2 hours before our arrival in Atlanta International Airport, the flight attendants passed through the aisles with another snack which was a quite delicious mini pizza with tomatoes and delivered warm. After my dinner experience with the terrible chicken, I was hesitant to taste the mini pizza, but I am glad that I did. The pizza was cooked well, seasoned appropriately, and the portion was perfect for a pre-arrival snack. After the pizza, the flight attendant’s also came through the aisles with another delicious pre-arrival snack, which was a warm pie with some type of fruit filling ( I think peach perhaps). The mini pie was an excellent pre-arrival, sweet treat, that tasted terrific.
Despite the dining hiccup with the dinner service, the overall flight experience with KLM was satisfactory. The extra legroom in Economy Comfort was appreciated, although the placement of tray tables and the unique chicken entrée may leave some passengers with mixed feelings. The flight attendants were pleasant and attentive to passengers during our nine hour flight from Amsterdam to Atlanta.
